Guarded by majestic stone lions named Patience and Fortitude, this New York landmark (said to epitomize the Beaux Art style) makes millions of books and periodicals available to New Yorkers and visitors alike in its cathedral-like third floor reading room. While you are on the third floor, check out the Charles Addams Gallery – the marble corridor leading to men’s room where a rotating selection of drawings (chosen from Library’s collection of 116 Addams works) are on display. And note that although the library continues to be a bastion of the written word, it has also embraced modern technology, as exemplified by its online CATNYP directory (that is, the CATalog of the New York Public Library.)
